Recovinyl® Recycling Results: 728,828 Tonnes Recycled in 2020

Recovinyl can announce that in 2020, 728,828 tonnes of PVC were recycled. 728,828, contributes to the 731,461 tonnes recycled within the VinylPlus framework in 2020. Both the Recovinyl and the VinylPlus results represent a 5% decrease from 2019, which is an outstanding result in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recovinyl was well on track to meet the VinylPlus recycling target of 800,000 tonnes per year by 2020 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic provoked severe market disruption during the first half of 2020: recycling operations decrease throughout Europe, as many companies were forced into lockdowns. However, the situation improved in the second part of the year, with a positive trend for PVC recycling in Europe. Several recyclers were able to continue to operate their facilities, and lockdowns only partially affected the construction sector. Despite a generally positive market in the second half of the year, a complete recovery from the first wave of COVID- 19 was not possible. In view of these circumstances, PVC waste recycling continued and still permitted outstanding recycling results. Despite a difficult year, these positive results would not have been attainable without all the recyclers and converters that participate in Recovinyl. Therefore, we would like to sincerely thank all recyclers and converters for permitting Recovinyl/VinylPlus to achieve these great results, we couldn’t have done it without their continuous effort and support.
